Continuing the story. Even at the close of a chapter.

Why do churches close?

Sometimes, closure follows the end of a congregational lifecycle and/or a shift in community demographics that weaken attendance, finances and ministries. Such closure is not failure. It can be a new beginning that strengthens the church’s legacy and opens new doors of ministry.

How does a church determine whether to close?

Church leaders must objectively evaluate the church’s viability, along with options for revitalization and collaboration. EverBless Foundation can support the endeavor through expertise gleaned by helping numerous other churches in similar situations. The foundation provides free resources to guide the process, educate members, encourage unity and support confident decision-making.

What happens after the decision is made to close a church?

In most instances, the closure leaves assets, such as land and buildings, along with various funds. With seasoned experience and financial expertise, EverBless can assist with real estate transactions and charitable investments that provide for continuance of ministries important to the church.

How is the fund managed thereafter?

Typically, EverBless becomes the trustee. As a faith-based foundation that operates as a non-profit, EverBless manages the fund according to parameters established by the church. Staff also assists the church in strengthening its legacy through continuance of missions, cemetery care and/or other charitable support.

Is it possible for this fund to grow?

The fund can grow through investment income. Contributions from individuals as outright or planned gifts also increase the fund’s value. Through strategic investment, these monies can continue working in perpetuity.
